Carin Beard began working for Mojave River Academy 3 years ago. She is in her 12th year of teaching. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a minor in Spanish at Southern California College in Costa Mesa, CA. She studied Spanish abroad in San Jose, Costa Rica for a summmer, while living with a Costa Rican family. She earned her teaching credential as well as her Masters in Education from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA.
In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, camping and traveling to new places. Mrs. Beard is looking forward to a new and exciting year with the Mojave River Academy Family.

Kim Gray joined our MRA team this fall. She earned her Bachelor’s degree and multiple subject teaching credential from California State University, Fresno. This is her fourteenth year of teaching. She loves living in Tehachapi and enjoys spending time with her family. And, she hates all birds… except the MRA roadrunners!
Kathy Lara joined Mojave River Academy in 2010. Kathy earned her degree in Liberal Studies with a minor in Child Development at CSUB, where she also completed the requirements for her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. She lives in Tehachapi with her husband of 17 years and has two children, a son in college and a daughter High School.
Mrs. Mends began working at MRA in April 2012. She attended college at CSU Bakersfield where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies and her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. She has acquired classroom experience in Kindergarten through High School over the past four years. Aside from being a teacher, she is also a wife and a mother of two active teenage boys. She spends most of her weekends at an ice rink watching her boys play hockey. Her family is very supportive of her work at MRA. She is thrilled to be a part of MRA and looks forward to working with her students.
Mrs. Simpson was born in northern California and played basketball and volleyball in high school. She attended Brigham Young University and received her teaching credential. She then went to Cal State Bakersfield for more schooling to obtain her California teaching credential. She taught elementary school in McFarland for 4 years, preschool for 3 years, and was a substitute in the Tehachapi School District for 4 years.
She is married with four children; two are in college and two are in high school. She enjoys chocolate, baking, going to the beach, teachng, spending time with family, and riding the biggest, scariest roller coasters. The faster and higher the better!
Mrs. Thompson is a native of Ukraine. She studied in one of oldest European Universities, and received a Masters with major in Cultural Studies and minor in Mathematics. Mrs. Thompson received her Single Subject Credential in Mathematics from Bradman University. This is her fourth year of teaching mathematics and second year working at Mojave River.
Mrs. Thompson loves spending time with her spouse and two little girls, in her free time she loves going to the beach, rollerblading and running.
Katharine Williams is beginning her second year as a teacher at Mojave River Academy. Katharine also worked in the Tehachapi School District as a Kindergarten through twelfth-grade substitute teacher 2010-2012, as a volunteer Title I Math tutor 2007-2009, and as a volunteer Kindergarten classroom aide in 2004. She enjoys working at Mojave River Academy as it provides her with an opportunity to work individually with students of all ages and backgrounds.
Kathy’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Family and Adolescent studies from California State University, Bakersfield and a State of California, Preliminary Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with a BCLAD Emphasis.
In addition to being a teacher, Kathy is a wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoys spending time with family, watching her son play baseball, hiking, camping, biking, and reading.
