Q. What is different about Mojave River Academy?
A. Mojave River Academy offers a Flexible Program to meet the needs of today’s student and his/her parents. The skilled Educators at Mojave River Academy will assist the student and his/her parents in designing a program that fits the needs and interests of each student.
Q. Can I do Independent Study at Mojave River Academy?
A. Yes, Mojave River Academy has skilled teachers to work with each student on an individual basis. Students can accelerate their academic program, explore areas of interest in depth, and move through the California Academic Standards at their own rates. Students must meet with their teacher at least once each week, but may meet more often as needed by the student. Small group tutoring classes are offered to Independent Study students to assist with course-work that may be challenging for the student.
Q. Can I earn a High School Diploma through Mojave River Academy?
A. Yes, the Board of Trustees of Mojave River Academy is authorized by the state of California to award a High School Diploma to any student completing the required course of study. In addition, students can participate in a traditional graduation ceremony.
Q. What is offered to Home-Schooled students?
A. Mojave River Academy offers a California approved curriculum to home-schooled students through the independent study program. In addition, the Academy provides ongoing support for parents who are assisting with their student’s education. Mojave River Academy provides small group tutoring for difficult subjects, access to enrichment activities, assessment of student progress, and a highly individualized program to meet each student’s specific needs.
Q. Can I accelerate my program or take College classes?
A. Absolutely! Mojave River Academy encourages students to accelerate their learning through our highly individualized program. In addition, students who qualify may take college course work through either co-enrollment or concurrent enrollment. It is even possible for an ambitious student to receive a high school diploma from Mojave River Academy and an Associates’ Degree from the local Community College at the same time.
Q. How can Mojave River Academy help me catch up on lost credits?
A. Mojave River Academy will assist each student in designing an academic program that will allow him/her to earn credits as quickly as possible. In addition, the Academy offers small-group tutoring for subjects that might have been difficult for the student. If you are serious about receiving a high school diploma, then Mojave River Academy is the choice for you!
Q. How does Mojave River Academy use Technology to assist the student?
A. Mojave River Academy has developed an extremely sophisticated online academic delivery system to meet the needs of students interested in a media-based learning experience.
Q. I don’t think I can do Algebra on my own … How can you help?
A. The Mojave River Academy flexible Independent Study program works with students to insure academic success. The Academy offers small-group classes in difficult subjects on a college schedule (e.g., a student might sign up for Algebra on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or on Tuesday & Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Classes are formed depending on the needs and wants of the students each semester. Make sure you discuss your needs with your teacher/counselor.
Q. Do you offer any vocational training programs or internships?
A. Mojave River Academy has partnered with several local businesses and community organizations to offer students internships in a variety of areas. Make sure you discuss your wishes and desires with your teacher/counselor. In some cases high school credit can be awarded for the successful completion of an internship.
Q. Where is the Mojave River Academy located?
A. Mojave River Academy is located in Victorville, CA. The Academy has resource centers located conveniently in Adelanto, Riverside, Pomona, Bakersfield, Barstow, Colton, Oro Grande, Palm Springs, Tehachapi, and Victorville to serve students who are enrolled in non-classroom based independent study.
Q. When does school start at Mojave River Academy?
A. Classes start on September 4, 2012. The school will generally accept new enrollments at anytime, depending on staff availability.
